Conditions

  • Sufficient help must be engaged and care taken to prevent the fire from spreading and the same must be watched until completely extinguished. Minimum number of persons required on site 1
  • Burning shall be conducted a minimum of _____ meters from standing timber, slash, or __________
  • Must have a charged garden hose or 45 gallons of water and a bucket, within 5 meters of the fire.
  • Consider wind direction and surrounding neighbours
  • Burn on non-windy days
  • No burning grass unless Stewiacke & District Fire Department (SFD) is notified
  • Burning permits must adhere to the Nova Scotia Burning Restrictions. Please check these restrictions prior to burning brush or having a camp fire. (novascotia.ca/natr/forestprotection/wildfire/burnsafe)

Note

  1. A permit to burn may, by written notice, be cancelled or suspended at any time by the Fire Chief or Deputy Chief and upon receiving notice of cancellation or suspension, the permit holder shall extinguish any fire started under the permit.
  2. Any person failing to comply with the terms and conditions contained on a permit to burn or on any sheet annexed thereto is guilty of an offence.
  3. This permit to burn is automatically cancelled upon Proclamation by the Mayor of Stewiacke.
  4. This permit to burn is subject to all terms and conditions contained in the “By-law Respecting the Burning of Brush, Wood, and Yard Debris in the Town of Stewiacke.”
